Composer In Residence with The Cory Band

Over the last decade, Christopher has established himself as a leading composer for brass bands, working with the finest ensembles all over the world. Since 2015, he has been Composer in Residence to the world-famous Cory Band, with further commissions including Brighouse & Rastrick, Grimethorpe, Leyland & Flowers Bands, and solo commissions including Owen Farr, Tom Hutchinson, Steve Stewart, Brett Baker, Stephen Sykes, Lode Violet & Tim De Maeseneer.

Christopher's test pieces have been set at the UK Regional Championships, National Youth Championships of Great Britain and West of England Bandsmen's Festival, with further international performances of his music including Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, the USA, and extensively across Europe. Increasingly in demand as an adjudicator, Christopher has adjudicated for BBC Young Musician, the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, UniBrass (University Brass Band Championship of Great Britain & Northern Ireland), Whit Friday Marches, West of England Bandsman's Festival, and Cory Band's Annual Composition Prize.

NORWEIGIAN PREMIERE for SONG OF THE NIGHT SKY

Bjørsvik Brass & Frode Amundsen yesterday gave the Norwegian premiere of cornet solo Song of the Night Sky as part of their performance at Siddis Brass Entertainment Contest at Stavanger Konserthus in Norway, earning a credible 6th place in the Elite division. Adjudicators were Rieks van der Velde, Joseph Parisi and Kjell Inge Torgersen, and winning the contest was Eikanger-Bjorsvik Musikklag, conduced by Reid Gilje.

NEVERLAND for Kapitol Promotions Ltd.

Kapitol Promotions Ltd has announced the test-pieces for the 2020 Regional Championships of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. Christopher's brand new work, Neverland, will feature as the set work for Section 4. Based on J. M. Barrie's 'Peter and Wendy', the composer has taken three of the main themes from the story, to create new musical material, forming a work in three contrasting sections.

THE LOST VILLAGE OF IMBER for Bratton Silver Band

Commissioned by Bratton Silver Band, in celebration of the band's 160th Anniversary, Christopher is writing a three movement work for the band, to receive its world premiere by Cory Band in February 2020. Christopher today visited the band to run through Movement 2, which will receive a public preview by Cory Band in Wiltshire later this month. Funded by Arts Council England, the project is a 9-month endeavour spear-headed by Bratton Silver Band, bringing together the local community with events based around Imber - a village on Salisbury Plain, evacuated in the Second World War.

UK PREMIERE by FAIREY BAND

Principal Cornet of The Fairey Band, Stephanie Wilkins will today give the UK premiere of Christopher's A Pacific Melody. The work was commissioned in 2018 by Lode Violet, and recorded by Lode with Brassband Willebroek in Belgium. Both growing up in Cornwall, Stephanie played the cornet solo in one of Christopher's early pieces for band, premiered nearly a decade ago by the Cornwall Youth Brass Band.

TRANQUILLUM for TIM DE MAESENEER

Commissioned by Tim De Maeseneer, Christopher has completed a stunning new tenor horn feature with brass band accompaniment. Tranquillum will this month be played and recorded for the first time by Tim and the horn section of Brass Band Willebroek in Belgium. The work will be performed exclusively by Brassband Willebroek for 12-months, after which it will be available for general purchase at www.christopherbondmusic.co.uk from September 2020.
